Places

Sugar Loaf

What does it feel like to have one of the world’s greatest and most visited touristic spots virtually just for you?
The surprise of having it almost empty in an awesome evening, in one of the busiest times of the year for tourism in Rio, is priceless.

I guess everybody was down there enjoying Rio’s Carnival already…

P.S. – You can have a feel of the Santos Dumont approach in the first half of this video. Thanks to Avianca pilots for making this.

Between Earth and Sky

What do you do when you´re driving back home, after a long, busy day, and an almost full moon emerges from the sea in a beautiful night?

You find a small road towards the countryside, leave the busier one, and seize the moment…

Jump Into Life

What to say of someone who just got to know you, but joined your crazy project of leaving town to get into some dirty road in the middle of the sugarcane plantations outside the city to try to reach that particular spot you saw in the satellite image? A common friend joining in the last minute only adds to the thrill, and I didn´t expect any less from my hometown men…

Thank you guys.

These are fast changing times in  a fast changing region. Centuries-old sugarcane plantations and so far virtually untouched mangrove areas have been giving room to a shipyard, an oil refinery, a growing harbour and many new industries, roads and countless services associated. No landscape seems to be taken for granted anymore as it was the case for our parents, grandparents and so on. Let´s enjoy it, while we can.

More images form our night out will be here in the coming weeks.

Happy 2012!

Cities Backlight – Búzios

As years go by, the number of sites free from light pollution decreases dramatically. If you´ve been able to visit one of those sites, consider yourself blessed. In between those places and our cities, one can take advantage of their glow as a huge backlight device for landscape photography. Here´s another image of this series.

Noronha

Fernando de Noronha is one of those remote places still virtually unknown internationally. A kind of iconic site, that lures the visitor with dreamscapes, it has brought both heaven and hell to those who attempted to settle along the centuries. Nowadays, arrival by both plane and boat is restricted to a small number of people per day, and the stay in the island to non habitants is taxed progressively, as to discourage long stays. In off peak seasons, it’s somewhat common to find a beach just for yourself for a while. At night, an eerie atmosphere may claim the whole place. Due to its isolation and the scarce light sources, being on a huge, deserted area, watching the stars actually reflect on the wet sand in a moonless night can be quite an experience.
