This week the process of ousting the elected president of Brazil has seen its darkest days. Nothing short of a coup, for its weak legal foundations and pretexts, it consolidated all power in the worst possible representatives in our politics: the retrograde, corrupt, right wing, religious (insert your favourite quality of bad politican, we´ll have them…) members that now rule the country, in utter disregard to the government policies and projects voted for in the last presidential elections.

Among the New Order news, the extinction of the most efficient coruption control govermental body, and many ministries, among them the Ministry of Culture, to be merged with the Ministry of Education, given to a notorious, anti-inclusive-educational-policies, moron.

A few weeks ago I was back in the theatre I got so excited to photograph last year. Among the photos we did there, I just felt like doing these. The guys were getting ready to make some other picture and at a given moment that scne just happened. I asked them to stay put, straighten themselves and made the photos.It felt like the seemingly approaching dark times had something to do with what I saw in that stage. A blurred, somewhat hidden, somewhat blinded future for cultural manifestations and for the people who work hard to make this a less savage country. My hope is that those who populate the real and metaphorical stages don´t be forced into a metaphorical scaffold in the times to come.

Esta semana o processo de retirada da presidente eleita do Brasil viu seus dias mais sombrios. Nada menos que um golpe, por suas frágeis bases e pretextos, ele consolidou todo o poder nos piores representantes em nossa política: os retrógrados, corruptos, de direita, religiosos (insira aqui seu predicado favorito de mau político, vamos tê-los…) que agora comandam o país, em total desconsideração para com as políticas públicas e projetos votados nas últimas eleições presidenciais.

Entre as notícias da Nova Ordem, extinção do órgão governamental mais eficiente de combate à corrupção, e de muitos ministérios, entre eles o Ministério da Cultura, a ser fundido com o Ministério da Educação, entregue a um notório idiota, oponente de políticas inclusivas de educação.

Umas semanas atrás eu estava de volta ao teatro onde fiquei tão animado em fotografar ano passado. Entre as fotos que fizemos lá, eu me senti impelido a fazer essas. Os rapazes estavam se arrumando pra outra foto e num dado momento essa cena se fez. Pedi pra ficarem onde estavam, se endireitarem, e fiz as fotos. Eu senti como se os tempos sombrios que pareciam se aproximar tinham a ver com o que vi no palco. Um futuro indefinido, meio sombrio, meio vendado, pras manifestações culturais e pras pessoas que trabalham duro pra fazer desse um país menos selvagem. Minha esperança é que os que povoam os palcos reais e metafóricos não sejam forçados em direção a um cadafalso metafórico nos tempos à frente.
